Is your Dealership Ready For The Craigslist Changes?

Inventory Management and Marketing Tools for Car Dealers.

As you may or may not be aware, craigslist (CL) has announced one of the more sweeping changes in their history. CL will start charging $5.00 per vehicle ad in their ‘Cars and Trucks by dealer’
category starting December 3rd. This is a change for ALL auto dealers and does not affect other categories like consumer auto sales, RVs, Powersports, etc.

The fact that Craigslist didn’t charge for posting has over time made the flow into their system a race for volume posting. That race brought several problems; first it forced many dealers to either
leave or also escalate their posting efforts to remain relevant. Dirty practices prevailed and ghosting and flagging has become common place. The final problem and the reason for this change is that
these postings created customer poor search results.

Please keep in mind that this change will not impact the number of visitors/buyers to CL, which is currently over 50 million! Yet,the number of ads posted will change dramatically, dropping
as much as 75%, because of the elimination of spammers and excessive posters. Another positive result is that competitor flagging may be a thing of the past. As non-aggressive dealers drop off, this
change will increase the effectiveness of your dealerships’ vehicle ads as they will not be mixed in an over saturated market of duplicate and unprofessional ads. As for the additional cost of posting
ads, the ROI is expected to increase significantly. So while in the short term it sounds painful, in the long run we will all be better off. The dealer that stays in the game will see a significant increase in the number of leads, since most dealerships will drop out of the race due to software incompatibilities and ad costs.
While other companies are bowing out of the craigslist marketing game, AutoPilot is embracing

these changes, and currently updating our systems to accommodate them. We encourage you to take advantage of a leaner, easier-to-search, and more useful Craigslist system. This is great
opportunity for you, because with one small fee CL will clean up the clutter and make it easier for their customers to find your vehicles more quickly.
Your current Autopilot Representative will be working with our Internet Management Team to evaluate your current account, and make suggestions on the number of ads, along with a cost effective
budget that is recommended for your dealership.
